Rats & Mice
Rats and mice are serious pests to humans. These animals are well adapted to living in very close association with humans, sharing their food and shelter.
Whether it is crops in the field, foods in store or inside your home, rats and mice consume or contaminate vast amounts of food. The bite of a rat or a mouse can be very serious to humans and to pets. They also gnaw, damaging property and potentially creating a fire risk by interfering with live wires. Rats and mice may live indefinitely, provided they have access to food, water and shelter. The most common species are:
Roof rat (Rattus rattus)
House mouse (Mus musculus)
Norway rat - the largest species (Rattus norvegicus)
